About The Artist
Since 1983 Kevin Pope has worked professionally as a humorous illustrator. His work has side kicked great writers visually in many forms of print and animation and it has been syndicated, licensed and integrated into many advertising campaigns. He has worked locally, nationally and globally.
Kevin graduated from Indiana University in 1981 after a stint at John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. There he majored in drawing and painting, but realistically wanted to enter the world of cartooning and humorous illustration.
After graduation, Kevin and his wife, Kim, moved to Chicago. He immediately started working with some of the top art directors, their advertising companies, and marketing and publishing firms. His work appeared in Playboy regularly, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, Outside magazine and his art and cartoons were licensed by Recycled Paper Greeting Cards. In 1983, his daily syndicated newspaper cartoon panel, Inside Out, was distributed nationally by Tribune Media Services.
In the 1990’s, Kevin collaborated with tech firms and software companies to bring a bit of levity to a sometime tedious and boring market. These partnerships were wonderfully successful. One in particular, Juniper Networks, went global in nature and constituted six years of designing and writing cartoons and developing marketing plans.
Recently, Kevin has taken up the brush and canvas once again to create interesting paintings with his twist of humor on an array of subject matters. His first gallery showing in Bloomington was the impetus for the recent collaboration with Oliver Winery and the new Beanblossom Hard Cider packaging. 100% recyclable aluminum bottles are wrapped with whimsical characters and clever stories using a high-tech graphic process.
