Creekbend Vineyard hosts one of the very few commercial plantings of this unique variety. This slow growing grape more than makes up for its challenges in the vineyard by the wonderful wines it can produce. In late summer the large gold berries are wonderful to eat off the vine. When picked full ripe the pressed juice has remarkably low acidity which makes it ideal for the production of a dry wine. Call it the dinner version of Muscat Canelli.
The key to processing this wine is gentle handling. Cool fermentation and protection from oxidation are the key to preserving this wine's exotic characters. Enjoy this wine with your spicier dishes of Thai or Indian cuisine. Or on the front porch, ice cold, with a bit of Maytag Bleu Cheese.
The 2011 vintage is extra special. A late frost damaged our 2010 fruit early in the season so we are very excited to have this wine back in the tasting room. Cheers to a great 2011 harvest season.
