Oliver Winery's Creekbend Vineyard is located in Monroe County, Indiana. Sitting on a ridge top overlooking the Beanblossom Valley, our vineyard site is ideal for growing grapes. The site, with moderately sloped, well-drained soil atop limestone bedrock, is part of the geographic region known as the Norman Uplands. This unglaciated region in Southern Indiana is home to many other vineyards as well. Our 37 acres of vineyards are a mix of vinifera, Native American varieties and interspecific hybrids. |

Vinifera varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Franc. Growing vinifera in our climate requires time consuming methods to protect the vines from our cold winters. Our interspecific varieties that are currently bearing fruit include Chardonel, Marechal Foch, Chambourcin and Traminette. Chardonel and Traminette are two whites that show great promise as dry and semi-dry varietals. Marechal Foch is a red variety used to make our popular Nouveau wine. Chambourcin is a grape widely grown in the eastern United States where it makes a broad range of red wines from Rosé to full-bodied barrel-aged wines. In 2004 we harvested our first crop from Vignoles, Vidal Blanc and Catawba. Vignoles will be used for a rich late harvest wine. Vidal Blanc has been planted expressly for the production of ice wine, an intensely flavored wine made with grapes that are harvested in mid winter when they are frozen. Catawba is a unique grape that we believe will ripen very well and make a wonderful bright Rosé wine. |
